AlignerBeta
Aligner Beta Notice
Aligner is beta software, provided free of charge. It can contain errors, stop working, or lose or damage data. Features and file formats can change. Keep independent backups. Do not use Aligner where a failure could cause injury or serious damage.
Personal use is free, including individual professional and commercial work. Teams may also evaluate the beta free of charge. Future team and cloud features will require a subscription. You will not be charged automatically when these features become available.
Released macOS builds check for updates automatically. By default, they download updates in the background and install them at the next app start. In Settings → Updates, select Notify to stop automatic downloads of new updates. Update checks continue, and updates already downloaded can still install at the next start.
Workspace data is stored locally. Agents you connect can send shared content to external services. Check their access and their providers' privacy terms before sharing sensitive data.
Read the License Agreement and Privacy Policy before use.
Aligner License Agreement
Use and price
Xaido GmbH & Co. KG, Cologne, Germany (“Xaido”), grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Aligner for personal use, free of charge. Personal use includes individual professional and commercial work. You may make copies needed for installation and backup.
The beta is provided free of charge. Teams may also install and use it for evaluation free of charge during the beta. Future team and cloud features will require a separate subscription. Prices and terms will be shown before you subscribe. Installing or updating Aligner does not start a paid subscription.
Ownership

Aligner is licensed, not sold. Xaido and its licensors retain their rights in the software. Except as this agreement or applicable law permits, you must not copy, modify, distribute, sublicense or sell it. Third-party components remain subject to their own licenses.
You retain your rights in your content. This license does not transfer ownership of your content to Xaido.
Beta and responsibility
Aligner is beta software provided free of charge. It can contain errors and lose or damage data. Features, compatibility and availability can change. Keep independent backups. Review agent access and agent changes. Do not use Aligner where a failure could cause injury or serious damage.
To the extent permitted by law, Aligner is provided “as is”, without a guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing in this agreement excludes mandatory rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or under applicable product-liability law.
Updates
Released macOS builds check for updates automatically. The default Download and install mode downloads updates in the background and installs them at the next app start. You can also choose Install and Restart.
Notify stops automatic downloads of new updates, not update checks. Updates already downloaded can still install at the next start. Check for Updates also downloads an available update in either mode.
Privacy and ending use
The Privacy Policy explains local storage, agent sharing and update requests. It is a notice, not permission to use your content for other purposes.
You can stop using Aligner and uninstall it at any time. Uninstalling the app does not necessarily remove your workspaces, settings or copies held by other services.
Aligner Privacy Policy
This notice covers the Aligner desktop beta. Future cloud services need their own privacy information.
Who is responsible
Xaido GmbH & Co. KG, PO Box 130214, 50496 Cologne, Germany, is responsible for personal data it receives through update requests and contact with you. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@xaido.com.
Data on your device
Aligner stores workspaces, trees, comments and attached files in folders on your device. It also stores local settings, your profile, workspace paths, agent registrations and access credentials. A local acceptance record stores the terms revision, your acknowledgments, the app version and the time you agreed. Local activity and recovery records can contain content and information about who changed it.
Aligner itself does not upload workspace content to Xaido. The desktop app has no usage analytics or automatic crash-report upload. Aligner does not require an online account.
Local files are not encrypted by Aligner. Protect your device and backups. If you keep a workspace in a synced or shared folder, your storage provider or other people with folder access can receive its contents.
Agents and other services
Agents connect to Aligner through a local interface. You choose which workspaces, trees or branches each agent may read or change. Agents can receive shared content, attachments, comments and author information. If you enable focus sharing, they can also receive your active tree and selected items.
A connected agent or its provider can send and store this data outside your device, including in other countries. Its own terms and privacy policy apply. Revoking access stops future access through Aligner; it does not delete copies already received. Other software with access to your local files can read them independently of Aligner's agent permissions.
Opening an external link or an attachment in another app is subject to that website's or app's privacy practices.
Update requests
Released macOS builds automatically contact https://xaido.com/aligner/releases/ to check for and download updates. The server receives your IP address, request time, requested resource and HTTP headers. Workspace content is not included in these requests.
The purpose is to deliver updates and operate the download service securely. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing and securing updates, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Our update hosting providers are Hetzner and PlusServer in Germany, and AWS in the EU (Ireland). Update-server access logs are kept for 90 days.
Notify stops automatic downloads of new updates, not update checks. Updates already downloaded can still install at the next start. Check for Updates also downloads an available update.
Feedback
Send Feedback (Help menu) sends a message to Xaido only when you click Send. The message contains the kind of feedback, your text, your email address if you enter one and, if you leave the option on, the app version, operating system version, CPU architecture and language. Workspace content is not included. The server also receives your IP address and HTTP headers. It stores a hash of your IP address and user agent to limit the number of messages per day, not the IP address itself.
The purpose is to answer you and to improve Aligner. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Messages are stored on our servers at Hetzner in Germany and deleted automatically after 90 days.
Contact and local retention
If you contact us, we receive the contact details, message and files you send. Do not send sensitive workspace data unless needed.
You control your local files. Removing an item does not necessarily erase it from activity records, recovery files, Trash, backups or synced copies. Uninstalling Aligner does not necessarily delete these files. Copies held by agent or storage providers follow their retention rules.
Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction and data portability, subject to the legal conditions. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also complain to a data-protection supervisory authority. Contact us at the address above. Xaido cannot directly delete files held only on your device or by an independent provider.
